<p>I remember a few years ago when Content Marketing was described as the New Marketing. Nowadays there is pretty much universal acceptance in B2B and B2C circles that content creation should be an integral part of any successful marketing plan. To. be specific, according to the <span style="color: #ff0000;"><a style="color: #ff0000;" href="https://contentmarketinginstitute.com/articles/b2b-content-marketing-trends-research/#content-marketing-trends-2024">Content Marketing Institute,</a></span> 73% of B2B marketers and 70% of B2C marketers use content marketing as part of their overall marketing strategy. Regular readers of this blog will not be surprised to learn video content and therefore video production are set to play an ever increasing role in the most effective content that companies create. What I say say next might shock you, audio quality is more important than image quality in video production. Let me explain why.</p>
<h2>Audio Quality vs Image Quality</h2>
<p>Whilst both audio and video quality are crucial elements in video production, there are several reasons why audio is more important than image quality in certain contexts:</p>
<ol>
<li><strong>Communication and Understanding:</strong> The primary purpose of most videos is to convey a message or tell a story. Clear and high-quality audio is essential for effective communication. Viewers are more likely to forgive lower image quality if they can understand the audio clearly.</li>
<li><strong>Engagement:</strong> Engaging content often relies heavily on audio. Whether it&#8217;s a captivating soundtrack, well-recorded dialogue, or immersive sound effects, audio plays a significant role in keeping viewers interested and emotionally connected to the content.</li>
<li><strong>Professionalism:</strong> Poor audio quality is often more noticeable and distracting than lower video quality. Viewers are more forgiving of grainy or less sharp visuals, but distorted or unclear audio can be instantly off-putting and give the impression of a lack of professionalism.</li>
<li><strong>Accessibility:</strong> Some viewers may have visual impairments or choose to consume content without actively watching the video. In such cases, clear and descriptive audio becomes essential for conveying information.</li>
<li><strong>Realism and Immersion:</strong> In certain genres, such as documentaries, interviews, or narrative storytelling, realistic and immersive audio can enhance the viewer&#8217;s experience by making them feel more connected to the content. This is especially true in virtual reality (VR) and augmented reality (AR) applications.</li>
<li><strong>Practical Considerations:</strong> Achieving the highest quality of video production will be very resource-intensive and expensive.  State of the art video production requires advanced cameras, lighting equipment, and post-production editing. On the other hand, capturing good audio often involves more accessible and affordable equipment, making it easier to achieve high-quality results.</li>
<li><strong>Social Media and Mobile Consumption:</strong> With the rise of mobile devices and social media platforms, videos are frequently consumed on-the-go. In these situations, users might prioritise content that has clear and impactful audio, as they may not always be in a position to watch with undivided attention.</li>
</ol>
<p>While the importance of audio versus image quality can depend on the specific goals and context of a video, it&#8217;s essential for video producers to strike a balance between both aspects to deliver a compelling and professional final product. In many cases, the ideal scenario is to have high-quality audio and video, but if a trade-off must be made, audio quality is often prioritised for the reasons mentioned above. <p>The tremendous pace of change during 2023 in the B2B sector will not have escaped you. Personally I could not get through a day without being offered some new business innovation based on ChatGPT. There will be a lot more change in 2024 but also some continuing themes. Below I have identified 4 key themes that will be important for B2B Marketing during the year ahead. <h2>B2B Marketing Trends for 2024</h2>
<h2>1. LinkedIn &#8216;s Over-saturation Continues</h2>
<p>LinkedIn now has over 1 billion users and 38.1 million users in the United Kingdom. LinkedIn remains the platform of choice for B2B Marketers but the elephant in the room is it&#8217;s over-saturation. Yes, B2B marketers are still generating leads on the platform but they are also sending and receiving far too many unsolicited pitches each day. Of course, there are top performers on LinkedIn who attract attention and increase their followings with well crafted original content but the vast majority of B2B marketers rely on automation tools to distribute &#8216;spray and pray&#8217; connection requests and sales pitches. It does not make for a great user experience on the platform.</p>
<h2>2. The Rise of Private Networks</h2>
<p>As a response to LinkedIn&#8217;s over-saturation in 2023 we observed the rise of Private Networks that are very similar to the original functions of early LinkedIn. These B2B marketing networks are much smaller in size, think hundreds rather than millions in dedicated groups with a real chance of meaningful connection plus the sharing of knowledge and job opportunities. This trend of private online networks is set to continue during. 2024. In a forthcoming blog post I will discuss one of these private networks in more detail.</p>
<h2>3. The AI Backlash Intensifies</h2>
<p>The very understandable backlash against artificial intelligence (AI) has already started and will intensify during 2024. For example, YouTube has made changes to discourage the use of AI generated content on its platform. Those of you who are content creators will know exactly what <a href="https://www.tiktok.com/@themikepitt/video/7262047284815334689"><span style="color: #ff0000;">Eleven Labs Adam voice</span></a> sounds like and how it became ubiquitous during 2023. YouTube is leaning towards de-monetizing channels that rely exclusively on AI content or Faceless channels because of the very complicated copyright issues they create. <h2>4. Video Marketing Continues to Grow</h2>
<p>Those B2B Marketers who continue to embrace video marketing on a consistent basis will maintain their advantage over companies relying solely on written content. Video marketing delivers qualified warm leads; long form content on YouTube is preferable for top of funnel awareness but also works very well at the conversion stage too. <p>During the livestream it quickly became very apparent that I was attracting a lot more live viewers on TikTok compared to YouTube. I attracted ten times as many viewers on TikTok. At the time of the livestream I had less than 2000 followers on <span style="color: #ff0000;"><a style="color: #ff0000;" href="https://www.tiktok.com/@themikepitt">TikTok</a></span> and around 20,000 subscribers on<span style="color: #ff0000;"></span>. To me, this was very interesting so in today&#8217;s post I wanted to explore why I was able to attract so many more live viewers on TikTok compared to YouTube.</p>

<h2>TikTok Lives vs YouTube Lives</h2>

<p>There are several possible reasons why TikTok Lives may attract more viewers than YouTube Lives:</p>
<ul>
<li>TikTok&#8217;s algorithm is more focused on promoting live content: TikTok&#8217;s algorithm places a high emphasis on live content, which means that when someone goes live, their followers are more likely to be notified and see it. In contrast, YouTube&#8217;s algorithm is more focused on promoting pre-recorded content, which means that live content may not get as much visibility.</li>

<li>TikTok&#8217;s younger user base: TikTok&#8217;s user base is generally younger than YouTube&#8217;s user base. Younger audiences may be more likely to engage with live content and enjoy watching their favourite creators in real-time.</li>

<li>TikTok&#8217;s ease of use: TikTok&#8217;s live streaming feature is very easy to use and requires minimal setup. In contrast, YouTube&#8217;s live streaming feature can be more complex and require more technical expertise, which may discourage some creators from going live.</li>

<li>TikTok&#8217;s social features: TikTok&#8217;s live streaming feature includes a number of social features, such as the ability to send virtual gifts, chat with other viewers, and participate in challenges and games. These features may help to create a more engaging and interactive experience for viewers.</li>

<p>Overall, it&#8217;s likely that a combination of these factors contributes to TikTok Lives attracting more viewers than YouTube Lives. However, it&#8217;s important to note that the popularity of live content can vary depending on the specific niche and audience, so there may be cases where YouTube Lives are more popular than TikTok Lives.</p>
