<h2>StumbleUpon is Dead</h2>
<p>In the early hours of this morning I received this email from StumbleUpon and I will just read a couple of sentences for you. &#8216;Wow. After 16 years the day has come. Today is the last day that stumbleupon.com exists online and as we head into this moment we want to look back and thank you for making StumbleUpon an internet legend!&#8217; If you want to read that email in its entirety pause this video now and read from your screen.</p>
<p>So, StumbleUpon is dead; StumbleUpon was a discovery engine, below I have included a link to my original  StumbleUpon video from 2015. This is my StumbleUpon profile, I had shared some content. For webmasters who review their Google Analytics, StumbleUpon may have been the reason for crazy spikes in traffic. That is how I first heard of the platform. If a StumbleUpon user found a piece of your content and then shared it on the platform many new visitors could have come to your website. StumbleUpon had 40 million active users.</p>
<p>Although StumbleUpon is dead<span style="color: #ff0000;"> <a style="color: #ff0000;" href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Garrett_Camp" target="_blank" rel="nofollow noopener">its founder, Garrett Camp</a></span> has<span style="color: #ff0000;"><a style="color: #ff0000;" href="https://mix.com/" target="_blank" rel="nofollow noopener"> launched a new platform called mix.com.</a> </span>StumbleUpon&#8217;s users are being transitioned over to mix.com. <h2>Steem Markdown Course</h2>
<p>When you create a post on Steemit you have to use Markdown styling, Markdown is the text format and accounts for embedded links, bold and italics, as well as a comprehensive selection of emojis. After a few weeks of using Steemit, I found the <span style="color: #ff0000;"><a style="color: #ff0000;" href="https://steemskills.teachable.com/?affcode=146117_tantxftl" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Steem Markdown Course</a> </span>which teaches you all about Markdown and how to use it on Steemit. The course was clear, concise and practical. If you are joining Steemit, or intending to post more often on the platform,  I  recommend that you take this course.  It&#8217;s well structured, easy to follow and very helpful<span style="color: #ff0000;">. </span><a href="https://steemskills.teachable.com/?affcode=146117_tantxftl" target="_blank" rel="noopener"><span style="color: #ff0000;">Here&#8217;s the course link.</span> </a></p>

<h2>Ello 2018 Update</h2>
<p>In 2015, when I last looked at Ello, it was positioned as an ad free Social Network. At the time, the anti-commercial stance was a key point of difference compared to the major Social Media platforms including Twitter, Facebook and LinkedIn . Fast forward to 2018 and Ello has been re-positioned as an artistic community as I explain in<span style="color: #ff0000;"> <a style="color: #ff0000;" href="https://youtu.be/vDNAYjvtQeE" target="_blank" rel="noopener">the video</a>. </span></p>

The website is <a href="http://stumbleupon.com" target="_blank">StumbleUpon.com</a> I will tell you how I use StumbleUpon.I am not a heavy user of the site but I have an understanding of the platform. When I looked at my Google Analytics report for <a href="http://marketingfundamentals.com" target="_blank">marketingfundamentals.com</a> I noticed that I was getting some referral traffic from StumbleUpon so I investigated the platform, created a basic profile and then selected some interests to follow. Here are some articles that I have &#8216;stumbled upon&#8221; and liked. The platform algorithm then suggests new content for you based on your choices. </p>
<p>There are 25 million people using StumbleUpon platform, 13.6 million lists have been created and you can select from 512 interests. You can follow me and I will follow you back on the platform. You can pick stumblers to follow and review recommmended pages consistent with your interests. Have a look at StumbleUpon and create your own profile.  </p>

<p style="text-align: justify;"><span style="font-size: 12pt;">We have been researching some of the Facebook alternatives recently. Two days ago we wrote about Ello, the Ad-free social network, which promises that it would not sell your data to advertisers.</span></p>
<p style="text-align: justify;"><span style="font-size: 12pt;">Today, we focus on another social network that is generating buzz. Its called Tsu (pronounced as Sue). Tsu is a social network which is free to join, like Facebook. However, unlike Facebook, which has authority over all the content you share, the users of Tsu will own the content themselves and get paid in the process.</span></p>
<p style="text-align: justify;"><span style="font-size: 12pt;">For brands and advertisers, Facebook has decreased the organic reach drastically and with frequent algorithm changes, it has become difficult to keep track of how to reach more audience via Facebook. Tsu comes across as a much needed alternative in such a scenario.</span></p>
<p style="text-align: justify;"><span style="font-size: 12pt;">Facebook and Twitter use content created by users to generate revenue for its shareholders. Tsu on the other hand promises to do the exact opposite, by generating revenue for content publishers who can earn money for the content they produce.</span></p>
<p style="text-align: justify;"><span style="font-size: 12pt;">According to Sebastian Sobczak, founder of Tsu:</span></p>
<p style="text-align: justify;"><span style="font-size: 12pt;"><em>“Established social networks have built amazing business models prospering on the total monetization of free user-generated content. Why should anyone commercially benefit from someone else’s image, likeness and work giving no financial return to the owner? The markets we participate in are enormous, growing and can materially compensate each user — we’re simply and uniquely rewarding the users who are doing all the work. This is the way the world should work.”</em></span></p>
<h3 style="text-align: justify;"><span style="font-size: 12pt;"><strong>The philosophy on which Tsu has been built</strong></span></h3>

<h3 style="text-align: justify;"><span style="font-size: 12pt;"><strong>How does it work?</strong></span></h3>
<p style="text-align: justify;"><span style="font-size: 12pt;">Tsu is an invite only network. One can only join Tsu based on an existing user’s shortcode.</span></p>
<p style="text-align: justify;"><span style="font-size: 12pt;">Tsu shares social revenues that come from third party ads, sponsorships and partnerships. Once revenues are generated, Tsu receives 10% of the revenue to maintain the platform. Half of the remaining (45%) directly goes to the owner of the content and the other half of the remaining (45%) goes to the user’s upstream Family Tree (network of which you are part of)</span></p>
<p style="text-align: justify;"><span style="font-size: 12pt;">A user’s Family Tree is the entire network that is connected to the user which has contributed to the growth of the Tsu platform. This can be classified as:</span></p>
<ol style="text-align: justify;">
<li><span style="font-size: 12pt;">Friends: Users who are friends with you on Tsu</span></li>
<li><span style="font-size: 12pt;">Children: Users who have joined directly through your shortcode</span></li>
<li><span style="font-size: 12pt;">Grandchildren: Users who have joined via a shortcode from a user who is your “Child” on Tsu</span></li>
<li><span style="font-size: 12pt;">Network: Users who are one or more generations away from you on Tsu. People who have joined your network (being invited by a user who is already a part of your network)</span></li>
<li><span style="font-size: 12pt;">Followers: Users who follow you on Tsu</span></li>
</ol>
<p style="text-align: justify;"><span style="font-size: 12pt;"> Each user will have an upstream Family Tree (of which you are a part of) and a downstream family tree (network that has started from you). When you join Tsu, through someone’s shortcode, you become a part of that user’s network (your upstream Family Tree). So 45% (other half of the remaining) of the revenue will be shared with your upstream Family Tree.</span></p>

Pyramid Schemes’ primarily focus on getting more users to join the network. Users (who are part of a pyramid scheme) do not have goods or services to sell but rather their entire focus is on getting new users to join their downline tree. As no goods or services are exchanged/sold, the tree collapses, because there is no economics at play. Based on available data from companies, <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Multi-level_marketing#Criticism">99.9% of the users lose money in MLM</a>.</span></p>
<p style="text-align: justify;"><span style="font-size: 12pt;">Tsu might suffer from some of these same challenges that an MLM model faces. Another challenge which Tsu might face is from spammers who might share low quality content or copyrighted content from others to make quick money.</span></p>
