LinkedIn Company Pages

LinkedIn is the premier Social Media platform for B2B businesses and the number of LinkedIn Company Page followers is one of the metrics that you should track on weekly basis. In this video, I discuss two LinkedIn admin tools that you are probably not using. The first relates to Company Pages and the second is connected to the creation of online events. If you utilise these two tools effectively, you will be able to increase the reach of your company on LinkedIn.

LinkedIn

Developing the product, defining your target market and building the website often seem like the most crucial pillars of setting up an ecommerce business. While these are all certainly important, the success of your online business greatly hinges upon the hosting plan you settle for.

There are different types of hosting plans to choose from but realistically, your options are likely to come down to two—shared hosting and virtual private server (VPS) hosting. Of course, you can always switch to either one somewhere along the line if you feel dissatisfied with the option you chose. However, you’ll save time, money and resources if you get it right from the get-go.

So which one should you go for? Here’s a look at the parameters to base your decision on and how shared hosting and VPS hosting compare.

Shared or VPS Hosting

Performance

Shared hosting is a lot like living in an apartment complex. In an apartment, you have to contend with noisy neighbors, parking slot disputes, thieving neighbors, queues at the gym and a host of other problems that come with shared living spaces. Similarly, when you sign up for shared hosting, the activities, errors and traffic on other websites sharing the same resources can affect the performance of your own site.

These problems are largely non-existent with VPS hosting since you have all the allocated resources at your disposal. While VPS plans aren’t immune from performance and security challenges, they are a lot more predictable and manageable.

Control

Building on the predictable performance of a VPS hosting plan is the greater degree of control it affords you. If you want the ability to calibrate your hosting settings in detail, then VPS would be more suitable for your ecommerce site than shared hosting. You get server root access and have the freedom to install your own OS and applications to optimize performance and security.

With shared hosting you are limited to a rigid, standardized setup.

Server Administration

You may view the greater server control of VPS hosting as an advantage. However, it’s only an advantage if you have the technical knowledge or have the ability to hire someone with the said knowledge.

With shared hosting, it’s up to the host to worry about setting up the server, installing the required software, applying patches and upgrades as needed, and monitoring server uptime. It’s therefore suitable if you are looking to launch an ecommerce site but don’t want to get bogged down by server administration.

Scalability

Both shared hosting and VPS hosting are scalable but it’s the ease and degree of scaling that differs. Cheap and quality VPS hosting has a distinct advantage in this regard. The scalability of shared hosting could be sufficient in the short-term and as long as growth isn’t that dramatic.

In the medium to long term though and if your site’s traffic, users, data and applications grow rapidly, VPS hosting will be the better option. Since the performance factors are firmly in your control, it’s easier to predict future use and therefore plan and execute scaling.

Pricing

There’s no question that shared hosting is substantially cheaper than VPS hosting. If you are starting off your ecommerce business on a shoestring budget, aren’t sure about the existence of a market for your product or want to retain the ability to cut your losses quickly if things go belly up, then shared hosting will work for you.

That being said, you get what you pay for. Opting for shared hosting means foregoing all the advantages VPS hosting provides. If you want robust performance, scalability, security and control from the start, then the higher cost of VPS hosting should be more than worth it.

Both shared hosting and VPS hosting have advantages and disadvantages. Therefore, neither hosting plan would be appropriate for all ecommerce sites. The ideal hosting plan for you is dependent on your need. Before settling on a plan, take time to map out the short-, medium- and long-term goals of your site and determine the plan that will most efficiently get you there.

Keep an open mind and be prepared to change path if a couple of weeks, months or years in, your choice no longer serves the intended purpose.

This post may contain affiliate links please read our disclosure for more info.

On the 7th November 2017, Twitter rolled out increased tweet length to 280 characters around the world. Some Twitter users embraced the new limit and began sending longer tweets. This was not our approach. We regularly evaluate our Twitter analytics and know that our most successful tweets for clients and ourselves are shorter tweets (ideally between 70 and 100 characters) with an image and a link. Our focus has always been to give Twitter users one single thought per tweet. Often this is communicated in the form of a question and then entice them into clicking on the link. Adding more text for Twitter users to read and process before deciding whether to click or not has not proven to be a winning formula in our experience.

Tweet Length

If you are a business owner or person responsible for Content Marketing at your company the task for you is to split test shorter and longer tweets. Then you can accurately assess whether the increased tweet length is an opportunity or a trap to be avoided. Higher engagement with your target audience is the goal and I will be interested to read your conclusions. Please feel free to let me know in the comments section below.

Background Image Credit: yourleaf.org

The UK is a fertile breeding ground for social enterprises, there are around 82,000 social enterprises currently in existence employing more than 2 million people and their turnover is over £169 bn*. Approximately 4.2% of the adult population are working in social enterprises. Social enterprises are organisations that conduct trade to tackle social problems, improve communities, people’s opportunities in life or the environment. Any profits generated are reinvested into activity that delivers social impact. Social impact is the effect of an activity on the social fabric of the community that the organisation serves and includes the well-being of individuals and families.

According to a recent survey by Social Enterprise UK over half of social enterprises have seen an increase in their turnover in the last year. The sector compares favourably against regular small businesses with other metrics too. Some 40% of social enterprises are led by women and 11% have leaders from a minority ethnic background. This compares to only 18% and 7% amongst regular small businesses.

Social Enterprises

Working within a social enterprise has proven to be particularly appealing to the millennial generation and the outlook for the sector is overwhelmingly positive. However, for your social enterprise to thrive you must be able to market yourselves effectively. Marketing is just as necessary for social enterprises as it is regular businesses. Don’t think for a moment that the fact that you have a clearly defined social vision will be enough. How should you market yourself? In today’s connected society you should embrace Content Marketing and Social Media in the following ways:

Blogging

I am pretty sure that you know that you should blog and many of you within the social enterprise community will have some experience of blogging. However, you will need to commit to a regular blogging frequency of at least once per week. Once a month or every now and then is not enough. If you do not have resources to hire a full time blogger or to outsource the activity to a Content Marketing Agency gather together those most passionate voices within your organisation and put together a Content Calendar of future posts. You will be able to unlock the benefits of blogging ( better search engine results, more leads and customers, niche leadership, new opportunities, build a community) providing you are consistently producing good content. To find out more about how to generate blog post title ideas click here and here .

Twitter

Many of you will already be using Twitter of course but across the social enterprise sector its full potential has not yet been realised. One of the key benefits of using Twitter on a consistent basis is that it is very effective at providing the dynamism that your marketing needs. You can drive traffic to your website, to opt in pages or to event sign up pages on other platforms. Twitter gives your organisation opportunities to deliver effective calls to action and to engage with your audience. Your objective is to build rapport and then relationships with your target audience. For more about how to use Twitter strategically click here.

Periscope

Periscope is a live streaming app that was founded by Kayvon Beykpour and Joe Bernstein in early 2014 and is now owned by Twitter. Periscope can be a wonderful tool for social enterprises. Your audience or supporters, potential investors, crowd-funders and the community that you serve will appreciate a look ‘behind the scenes’ live-streaming during your events, and conferences allows them this opportunity. Use Periscope and you will connect with a much wider audience plus broadcasts can be saved and uploaded to your YouTube channel or other platforms. For detailed information on the Periscope app click here.

2019 Update – I would recommend replacing Periscope with YouTube live. Once enabled, YouTube Live is likely to have greater reach and engagement from your community.

LinkedIn

Want to connect with more potential investors? Meet potential members of the advisory board for your social enterprise? Most likely you will find them on LinkedIn. What should you do on LinkedIn? Create comprehensive personal profiles. Create Company pages for your social enterprise and regularly post content on your company page and personal profile. To maximise your effectiveness on LinkedIn you should also utilise LinkedIn publishing. You can re-purpose blog content for LinkedIn publishing or create unique content. Do this consistently and your audience on the platform and for your Social enterprise will grow.

Facebook Groups

Facebook is perhaps the most surprising inclusion on this list. However, my recommendation is that you create a Facebook Group for your social enterprise. All social enterprises should have the objective to create a community around their social vision. Communities need to be hosted somewhere – this will be a place where community members can interact with each other as well as with you. Facebook groups (not Pages) are perfect for this purpose. It’s important to remember that Posts within Facebook Groups receive a much higher level of visibility among group members than Pages.

Content Marketing & Social Media Coaching Testimonial by Mike Pitt. Simon McMahon, Senior Analyst at The Social Innovation Partnership (TSIP) discusses his experience working with Mike Pitt of Marketing Fundamentals during a 3 month Content Marketing and Social Media coaching programme. During the programme TSIP staff members were coached on blog post creation, the use of relevant Social Media platforms (in their case these included Twitter and LinkedIn) and understanding Analytics platforms. Each week the draft blog posts of TSIP team members were critiqued and a Content Calendar was created and updated. Social Media interactions and engagement were also discussed and evaluated each week. As the programme progressed the team built up their levels of competency and TSIP was able to benefit from an improved return on engagement. This testimonial was recorded during 2014.

The backbone of every business is the trust and loyalty of their customers. In case you are busy brainstorming on how to build the trust of prospective clients, here are some effective guidelines to help you out. Glance on to know, how sharing essential information can help your business grow.

Website Marketing Strategy

Let your Website do the Talking

Your website is the most indispensable part of your business. It’s the first impression of your company, an opportunity to reach out to customers and also a platform to voice your business ideas. No wonder, if you want to build the trust of your customers and share some intriguing scoops of your company, your website can be the ideal platform.

Your website needs to be chic, informative and tremendously user-friendly. Keep some success stories, important business scoops and everything interesting about your company in the website. Let your clients know the plethora of services you provide. Let them know how you are different from other companies. Unless you let your website do all the talking, it becomes extremely difficult to market your business.

While creating a website, make sure it has;

Loads of informative content that’s also interesting to read.

Links that keep your customers hooked.

An idea or concept that your users will remember.

Keep it Smart and Interesting

None of your customers want to know what your business strategies are. Neither are they interested to know what the bottom line of your business is. So instead of blabbering about the optimal performance strategies of your business, keep the web content interesting. Always remember “The way to your customer’s trust is legit and interesting stuff.”

An effective website marketing strategy will focus instead on the concerns of the prospective customer. Create content that solves customer pain points. Read your web content and ask yourself whether you would find something like that interesting, as a customer. Also, while letting your website do the talking make sure it talks like a human and not a robot. Keep the stuff interesting and your customers are bound to follow you.

Sharing is Caring

No relationship can survive if it’s a one-way thing. Same goes for your business. If you constantly share your company guidelines and details, no customer is going to feel interested. So don’t be afraid to share that secret recipe of your business. This will only keep your customers hooked up to your site.

While sharing stuff about your business, you can always create a FAQ section in the format of an e-Book. Answer all the questions about your company there.

You can also make your site interesting by quotes or inspirational stuff that influences your business. Reviewing a product or service, relevant to your business, can also be of much help.

Finally, add a cherry to the cake, by creating a super interesting business blog. Educate your customers with some interesting and informative scoops about your business. These blogs can also be handy in driving more traffic to your site.

So what are you waiting for? Get rid of all the shyness and create an engaging and informative site to build the trust of your customers easily.

If you live in the UK it will not have escaped your notice that after a long and close run race Manchester City won the premiership crown narrowly beating Liverpool with a victory over West Ham on the final day. While most business owners and entrepreneurs will lack the resources of Sheik Mansour , the Abu Dhabi based owner of Manchester City there are still clear lessons that business owners can learn from the newly crowned premiership champions.

Lessons for Entrepreneurs from Manchester City Football Club

1. Never give up
Business owners will face a number of challenges and failures along their journey and the easiest thing to do it to quit. That is what most people do when faced with uncomfortable situations. It requires more heart and courage to keep on giving your all when all is seemingly lost or at least the success you crave appears impossible. Most successful entrepreneurs have experienced a large number of failures but they did not quit.

2. Don’t worry about your competitors
Ultimately you cannot control what your competitors do. They are free to plan and execute their strategy to the best of their ability as you are too. Focus on your core strengths and you will perform at your best just as a successful team must do.

3. Give everyone on your team a chance to shine
You may think that you know who your company’s star performers are but will be surprised. Once your company is performing at its optimum level you will see the equivalent of your Edin Dzeko, Martín Demichelis and Fernando Luiz Roza (Fernandinho) rise to the occasion.

4. Focus on building a legacy
While the achievement of your next milestone should be celebrated it is not the end goal. You should be on a path towards creating an entity that can continue without your direct involvement. To do this you will need the right strategy and focus as well as the team to get you there.

5. Deliver Social Impact
There is justifiably a lot of discussion around the need to deliver good business or business that does good as well as creating a profit. There are over 70, 000 social enterprises in the UK. You should participate in initiatives where your company can create positive social impact within the community that you are located. Manchester City achieve this via their City in the Community scheme. The scheme delivers a wide range of programmes across 5 main themes: Skills and Enterprise, Health and Activity, Football and multi sports, Disability Sports and Community Cohesion. You can read more about it here http://www.mcfc.co.uk/Community/Manchester-programmes

We hope you have found this information useful.Give us a call on +44 845 2264 247 or email us via mail@marketingfundamentals.com if you’d like us to discuss Content Marketing and how best to use Social Media to promote your business or enterprise.

Best regards,

Traditionally, women have struggled to obtain finance and have suffered unfair treatment based only on their gender. While equality is thankfully now a much more realistic goal, the truth is we are still far from treating everyone the same. In a world where men are still paid more than women for the same job, it’s no surprise that many women dream of running their own business.

However, if women can’t access the cash they need, they can’t even get started. Whether the barriers to getting funds are real or imagined, the problem is most women believe they exist, and therefore may not even try to get the bank loan or grant which could launch their idea. How do we end this vicious cycle? Crowdfunding.

Crowdfunding for Women

Crowdfunding is an innovative new method of funding, and it’s revolutionising finance with a simple core concept – tell everyone about your great idea and ask for money in return for a reward. It’s as easy as that. Well this is great news for everyone of course, but for women in particular because it removes any bias, and allows women the same chance to pitch their ideas.

In fact, at Bloom VC we’ve found our female owned projects are actually much more successful than their male counterparts, and are more comfortable engaging and interacting with their community. (Ed – based on your projects completed so far) Maybe this personal relationship comes more naturally to us girls, after all we are the more touchy feely gender!

Hannah Stansfield is one such example, as she has funded not one but two successful projects with Bloom, Feeding Dahab’s Dogs and The Saddle Pad Project, both of which were for charity, to protect animals in Egypt. Hannah found it difficult to raise money previously, as she had tried donation drives through Facebook and the website, and a PayPal widget, but they didn’t appear to be getting the message across. She says crowdfunding has allowed her to explain her project clearly, and to a much wider audience, which has allowed her to raise more that she thought possible in a short space of time.

Jessica McDermott has recently closed her project successfully – all she needed was £500 to fund her comedy club exhibition ‘You Must Love Working Here’. While she had considered applying for grants through bodies such as creative Scotland, she felt it was risky to sit about waiting for her application to be processed. The great thing about crowdfunding for Jessica, was she was able to clearly see how much she had raised and how long she had left to go.

It’s amazing to see how far some of our project owners have come since their crowdfunding campaign; Polly from Cake Cetera will be delivering her gorgeous cupcake bouquets nationwide in the Spring, and Mhairi from Bonnie Bling was able to go full-time in her acrylic jewellery business after crowdfunding more than £8000. She has also hired part-time employees and enjoyed massive success as celebs such as Olly Murs, Sir Elton John and Tallia Storm have worn her jewellery.

As today is International Women’s Day Bloom VC wanted to celebrate our strong female project owners who are breaking the mould, and encourage more women to join the crowdfunding revolution! With that in mind, we’ve announced a no commission offer for any female owned projects launched on the 8th, and have much more planned to mark this important date. Check out our activity on Facebook and Twitter, and our IWD page.

Are you considering crowdfunding? If you are our website is a great place to start.

We hope you find this information useful.
