<p>The tremendous pace of change during 2023 in the B2B sector will not have escaped you. Personally I could not get through a day without being offered some new business innovation based on ChatGPT. There will be a lot more change in 2024 but also some continuing themes. Below I have identified 4 key themes that will be important for B2B Marketing during the year ahead. <h2>B2B Marketing Trends for 2024</h2>
<h2>1. LinkedIn &#8216;s Over-saturation Continues</h2>
<p>LinkedIn now has over 1 billion users and 38.1 million users in the United Kingdom. LinkedIn remains the platform of choice for B2B Marketers but the elephant in the room is it&#8217;s over-saturation. Yes, B2B marketers are still generating leads on the platform but they are also sending and receiving far too many unsolicited pitches each day. Of course, there are top performers on LinkedIn who attract attention and increase their followings with well crafted original content but the vast majority of B2B marketers rely on automation tools to distribute &#8216;spray and pray&#8217; connection requests and sales pitches. It does not make for a great user experience on the platform.</p>
<h2>2. The Rise of Private Networks</h2>
<p>As a response to LinkedIn&#8217;s over-saturation in 2023 we observed the rise of Private Networks that are very similar to the original functions of early LinkedIn. These B2B marketing networks are much smaller in size, think hundreds rather than millions in dedicated groups with a real chance of meaningful connection plus the sharing of knowledge and job opportunities. This trend of private online networks is set to continue during. 2024. In a forthcoming blog post I will discuss one of these private networks in more detail.</p>
<h2>3. The AI Backlash Intensifies</h2>
<p>The very understandable backlash against artificial intelligence (AI) has already started and will intensify during 2024. For example, YouTube has made changes to discourage the use of AI generated content on its platform. Those of you who are content creators will know exactly what <a href="https://www.tiktok.com/@themikepitt/video/7262047284815334689"><span style="color: #ff0000;">Eleven Labs Adam voice</span></a> sounds like and how it became ubiquitous during 2023. YouTube is leaning towards de-monetizing channels that rely exclusively on AI content or Faceless channels because of the very complicated copyright issues they create. <h2>4. Video Marketing Continues to Grow</h2>
<p>Those B2B Marketers who continue to embrace video marketing on a consistent basis will maintain their advantage over companies relying solely on written content. Video marketing delivers qualified warm leads; long form content on YouTube is preferable for top of funnel awareness but also works very well at the conversion stage too. This is has been driven by the amazing success of TikTok which prompted Instagram and YouTube to create their own copies of TikTok. That is how Instagram Reels and YouTube Shorts were born. All of these platforms have forced Content Creators to learn a new content format and to understand how to be successful with this new format. Has this been good for Content Creators? Please keep reading to discover my thoughts on this topic.</p>
<p>The choice between short form content and long form content depends on various factors, including the goals of the content creator, the target audience, and the platform being used. Both types of content have their advantages and can be effective in different scenarios. Here&#8217;s a breakdown of each:</p>
<h2>Short Form Content</h2>
<p>&nbsp;</p>
<ol>
<li>Concise and focused: Short form content allows you to deliver your message quickly and succinctly, making it ideal for capturing attention in a fast-paced online environment.</li>
<li>Easy to consume: Shorter content tends to be more easily digestible, especially for audiences with limited time or attention spans.</li>
<li>Shareability: Short form content is often more shareable, making it easier to spread your message across social media platforms.</li>
<li>Versatility: Shorter pieces can be used as teasers or introductions to longer content, driving traffic to more comprehensive resources.</li>
</ol>
<h2>Long Form Content</h2>
<p>&nbsp;</p>

<li>In-depth exploration: Long form content provides the opportunity to delve deep into a subject, offering comprehensive information and analysis. It allows you to showcase your expertise and provide valuable insights to your audience.</li>
<li>Search engine optimization (SEO): Longer content tends to perform better in search engine rankings, as search engines often favor comprehensive and authoritative pieces.</li>
<li>Establishing authority: Well-researched and comprehensive long form content can position you as an authority in your field and help build credibility with your audience.</li>
<li>Engagement and loyalty: Long form content has the potential to engage readers for an extended period, allowing them to immerse themselves in your content and develop a stronger connection with your brand.</li>
</ol>
<p>Ultimately, the best approach for content creators often involves a combination of short form and long form content. Short form content can be useful for capturing attention and driving initial engagement, while long form content provides an opportunity to nurture relationships, demonstrate expertise, and provide more value. It&#8217;s important to understand your audience&#8217;s preferences and needs, experiment with different formats, and adapt your content strategy accordingly.</p>
<h2>My Verdict</h2>
<p>I am a member of an official YouTube Shorts community and have also conducted my own research into Short Form Content. I have posted hundreds of TikToks, Instagram Reels and YouTube Shorts. Here are my findings:</p>
<p>a) Short Form Content may increase your exposure to a wider audience but these viewers have no connection to you. They are not likely to become part of your community or watch any ads around your YouTube Shorts, Reels or TikToks.</p>
<p>b) The majority of Content Creators (98%) are making no money at all from Short Form Content and would be better off focusing on Long Form Content i.e. uploading videos longer than 8 minutes to YouTube and monetizing via Adsense.</p>
<p>c) There are many Content Creators on TikTok or YouTube Shorts with large followings (200K +) that are making no money from their following.</p>
<p>d) For the majority of Content Creators, creating Short Form Content is effectively working for free. It&#8217;s great for the video platforms because they get lots of User Generated Content (UGC) but it is not great for the Content Creators.</p>
<p>e) Long Form Content is more effective than Short Form Content at generating leads for B2B businesses because you have the chance to build a relationship with the viewer as they consume your longer videos. Viewers are more likely to enter your sales funnel.</p>

<p>Last October, October 17th to be precise, I ran a live test and went live simultaneously on YouTube and TikTok. If you want to watch that livestream <span style="color: #ff0000;"><a style="color: #ff0000;" href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=J10VBh_xryg">you can do so here. </a></span></p>
<p>During the livestream it quickly became very apparent that I was attracting a lot more live viewers on TikTok compared to YouTube. I attracted ten times as many viewers on TikTok. At the time of the livestream I had less than 2000 followers on <span style="color: #ff0000;"><a style="color: #ff0000;" href="https://www.tiktok.com/@themikepitt">TikTok</a></span> and around 20,000 subscribers on<span style="color: #ff0000;"></span>. To me, this was very interesting so in today&#8217;s post I wanted to explore why I was able to attract so many more live viewers on TikTok compared to YouTube.</p>

<h2>TikTok Lives vs YouTube Lives</h2>

<p>There are several possible reasons why TikTok Lives may attract more viewers than YouTube Lives:</p>
<ul>
<li>TikTok&#8217;s algorithm is more focused on promoting live content: TikTok&#8217;s algorithm places a high emphasis on live content, which means that when someone goes live, their followers are more likely to be notified and see it. In contrast, YouTube&#8217;s algorithm is more focused on promoting pre-recorded content, which means that live content may not get as much visibility.</li>
</ul>
<p>&nbsp;</p>

<li>TikTok&#8217;s younger user base: TikTok&#8217;s user base is generally younger than YouTube&#8217;s user base. Younger audiences may be more likely to engage with live content and enjoy watching their favourite creators in real-time.</li>

<li>TikTok&#8217;s ease of use: TikTok&#8217;s live streaming feature is very easy to use and requires minimal setup. In contrast, YouTube&#8217;s live streaming feature can be more complex and require more technical expertise, which may discourage some creators from going live.</li>

<li>TikTok&#8217;s social features: TikTok&#8217;s live streaming feature includes a number of social features, such as the ability to send virtual gifts, chat with other viewers, and participate in challenges and games. These features may help to create a more engaging and interactive experience for viewers.</li>
</ul>
<p>Overall, it&#8217;s likely that a combination of these factors contributes to TikTok Lives attracting more viewers than YouTube Lives. However, it&#8217;s important to note that the popularity of live content can vary depending on the specific niche and audience, so there may be cases where YouTube Lives are more popular than TikTok Lives.</p>

<h2>Content Ideas</h2>
<p>One of the questions that I get asked most is, &#8220;Mike, where can I find content ideas?&#8221; <span style="color: #ff0000;"><a style="color: #ff0000;" href="https://youtu.be/9tbM0S74xLA">In this video,</a></span> I make two suggestions for websites that can help you think of new topics for pieces of content. If you often find that you are suffering from writer&#8217;s block, these two suggestions will be very useful for you. Even if you are well practised in the creation of content pieces, I believe you will still get some value out of using these websites on a regular basis.</p>
<p>I would recommend that you save content ideas into a spreadsheet or at least a word document so that you always have a list of content ideas that you can develop into full length articles or videos.  This post will also be helpful for you. <span style="color: #ff0000;"><a style="color: #ff0000;" href="https://www.marketingfundamentals.com/can-ai-write-your-content-for-you/">Can AI Write Your Content for you? </a></span>Please note, there is software available that can help you create content.</p>

<h2>Inspirational Quotes</h2>
<p>In business, as in life, it has become common to use inspirational quotes to emphasise a particular point or perspective. <span style="color: #ff0000;"><a style="color: #ff0000;" href="https://youtu.be/zePQnvIl7Mo" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">In this video,</a></span> I discuss the dangers of  adopting this approach and use three examples from famous people to illustrate my points. The famous people mentioned are Winston Churchill, Henry Ford and Tony Robbins.  I also discuss another consideration that is rarely mentioned, I hope you find my video useful.</p>
<h2>Stopped Using Quotes</h2>
<p>Once, I identified the problems with using quotes in marketing materials, I stopped using them. A few years ago, I filmed a series on YouTube entitled, <span style="color: #ff0000;"><a style="color: #ff0000;" href="https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLlW_G6bM5Z_35PqdU863WV0BFvVUbMXIw" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">Quotations for Life</a></span>. <h2>Active Income</h2>
<p>Active income is the traditional method of earning money via a job, with activ income an employee trades their time for wages that are paid to them. The employee has to be present at the workplace to earn their salary and travels to their workplace to execute their tasks. This model of income generation applies to people working in offices, shops and restaurants amongst others.</p>
<h2>Passive Income</h2>
<p>Passive income is a different model, with passive income once the product or service has been set up, income is generated on a recurring basis without the business owner having to complete additional tasks. An author is a good example, once they have written and published their book they can then continue to receive passive income from the sales of their book.  <span style="color: #ff0000;"><a style="color: #ff0000;" href="https://youtu.be/pONPTOxz96w" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">In this video,</a></span> I explore other passive income examples and explain how it is possible to transition from active income to passive income.</p>
