The booth space and presence many businesses relied on to make connections with new leads vanished overnight. Much of the world has changed, and you might wonder what tradeshow marketing will look like as we head into 2022 in under a year.</p>

<p>Statista predicts the global <span style="color: #ff0000;"><a style="color: #ff0000;" href="https://www.statista.com/topics/1498/trade-show-marketing/">trade show market will reach $40 billion</a> </span>by 2023. At the moment, many planned events are virtual connections. While there are advantages to a digital gathering, there are also limitations. It’s hard to make a connection with someone you don’t know when you aren’t face to face.</p>

<p>If your business utilizes conferences to increase brand awareness, start planning now for a return to in-person events. Things will return to old patterns, but expect to see some changes in trade show marketing as well.</p>
<h2>How COVID-19 Changed the Trade Show Industry</h2>
<p>In early 2020, companies canceled significant exhibitions like Google I/O and Mobile World Congress, leading the way for smaller events to follow suit. Some people expect a vaccinated world will return to what it was in 2019.</p>

<p>However, people have adapted to living a different lifestyle in the last year. They see the cost savings and convenience of Zoom calls and online meetings. <p>People are much more aware of large crowds and social distancing. While the world works to get the virus’s emerging strains under control, expect events to remain small. Registration and booth space may be limited.</p>

<p>You might need to attend two shows with fewer attendees to reach the same number of people you could in the past. Save money by planning events back-to-back in nearby cities. Cut down on travel and expenses by combining flights and efforts.</p>

<p>Some trade shows attempted to go virtual, but exhibitors saw few advantages to participating. They still paid a fee and had the work of setting up a virtual exhibit. However, they didn’t get the same traction as an in-person event.</p>

<p>If you plan to participate in hybrid trade show marketing, look for ones offering unique opportunities. Perhaps you can send printed materials to registrants matching your target audience profile.</p>

<p>We have reached December and it is now officially acceptable to mention Christmas. This is a time when many B2B businesses unofficially slow down or switch off. Without doubt, Christmas provides a positive focus for many so I welcome this time of year. However, embracing Christmas and all that entails does not mean that you should abandon your new business development activities.</p>
<p>B2B business is dependent on relationships and Christmas-time is a great opportunity for you to strengthen the relationships that you have with clients and partners. Below I have listed a few ways in which you can build even stronger relationships.</p>
<h2>Drive ROI From Christmas Events</h2>
<h2>Face to Face Meetings</h2>
<p>At this time of year, you should plan more face to face meetings with your clients rather than emails and phone calls. Depending on your company&#8217;s approach, their may be opportunity for you to invite clients and partners to a company party or official get together. The advantage of events like these is that it creates opportunities for you and your colleagues to speak informally with your clients in a more relaxed setting. In my own experience, I have been able to be briefed on many new projects because of conversations at events. Please ensure that your team are prepared to spot opportunities and remind them that in a sense they are always on duty.</p>
<p>&nbsp;</p>
<h2>Don&#8217;t Lose That Work Ethic</h2>
<p>If your company prides itself on the customer service that you give to your clients, please do not let this slip because it is Christmas. This is such a straightforward point but it affects so many companies. If your promise is to pick up all calls within 4 rings or answer email queries within 6 hours, please stick to that. The fact that staff are at a Christmas lunch should not prevent you from upholding the standards you have set for yourself. Potential and existing clients and partners are watching and will view more favourably those companies that maintain high levels of professionalism and responsiveness.</p>

<h2>Proactive Reports &amp; Analysis</h2>
<p>The clients that you have the best relationships with will perceive you to be business partners rather than just a supplier. As a consequence, they will appreciate any proactive reports or analysis that you can provide for them based on your area of expertise. To be clear, this is over and above the standard reporting that you supply to them as part of your working relationship. Christmas time is a great time to give your clients or partners reports of analysis of this nature. It&#8217;s a great way to remind them of your value beyond the projects that you are executing for them.</p>
<h2>Take Action</h2>
<p>If you implement the three steps above, together with the content-led approach that we champion at Marketing Fundamentals Ltd, you should see an increase in the amount of new business opportunities coming your way. Just one or two new opportunities could deliver a positive ROI;  this would make Christmas time event expenditure worthwhile for its business benefits as well as the positive impact it has on staff morale. <p>We are almost half  way through 2017 so this is a good time to evaluate our progress against our goals for 2017.  Have you achieved your goals for 2017? Are you on track to achieve them by December? Of course, there will always be factors out of our control that affect our ability to achieve our goals but this is still a useful assessment that we can make.</p>
<h2>Have you Achieved Your Goals For 2017?</h2>
<p>One of my publicly stated goals was to appear on more panels at events and to offer myself for speaking engagements. The objective being to meet more people face to face and increase our agency&#8217;s network. I have not made a lot a progress in this regard but do now have a new plan. I will share more details of the new plan in a few months&#8217; time.</p>
<p>Another goal that I can share with you was to increase the number of videos that I uploaded to our <span style="color: #ff0000;">.</span> Last year I uploaded 35 videos. This year I have stuck to the weekly upload schedule and have already uploaded 26 videos and we have not yet reached the end of June. This has enabled us to add more subscribers.  If you would like to become a subscriber <span style="color: #ff0000;">.</span></p>

<p>Offices are no longer tiny, boxy little cubicles where workers toil in isolation – in the last decade, the so-called social space has risen in importance to become possibly the most important part of the workplace.</p>
<p>Social spaces include features like breakout spaces, informal meeting rooms and even big kitchens where people can get up during meetings and grab a coffee for everyone. <span style="color: #ff0000;"><a style="color: #ff0000;" href="https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B01KVH5XE4/ref=as_li_tl?ie=UTF8&amp;tag=mrpittster-21&amp;camp=1634&amp;creative=6738&amp;linkCode=as2&amp;creativeASIN=B01KVH5XE4&amp;linkId=e71bab641c6f321de3f7c8fe65549231">These rooms or areas have soft lighting, even softer furniture</a></span> and people bring in their mobile devices to them rather than sitting stiffly at a desktop or round a table.</p>
<p>These spaces aren’t all about the meetings, either, staff members can relax, snack, play a game or even take a quick nap. The relaxing nature of these social – or third – spaces makes the workers in that <span style="color: #ff0000;"><a style="color: #ff0000;" href="http://www.cattaneo-commercial.co.uk/Properties.html?Location=Motspur%20Park%20(KT3),%20Surbiton%20(KT6)&amp;QueryLocation=Areas%3aKT3%2bKT6&amp;Type=&amp;QueryType=&amp;Tenure=&amp;QueryTenure=&amp;MinSize=0&amp;MaxSize=1000000" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">office space in Surbiton</a> </span>feel comfortable enough to brainstorm and bring in new ideas.</p>
<h3><strong>What is the Third Space?</strong></h3>
<p>The third space has, up until recently, been the space between work and home, like a coffee shop, where someone could hold a meeting with a colleague or get a bit of work done. Generally the third space has been outside both home and office, but just as work has entered home, home comforts are coming to the office, in the shape of breakout spaces and <span style="color: #ff0000;"><a style="color: #ff0000;" href="https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B010SKHZQS/ref=as_li_tl?ie=UTF8&amp;tag=mrpittster-21&amp;camp=1634&amp;creative=6738&amp;linkCode=as2&amp;creativeASIN=B010SKHZQS&amp;linkId=efd340431cd04d113b667408a80113a2" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">play areas.</a></span></p>
<p>Companies and office space providers are investing in these new areas – time was when purchase orders for panelled cubicles and individual workstations were huge and frequent. Now the money’s going to these social spaces, with kitchens growing in size; third spaces are no longer a perk or a luxury, they’re seen as essential, especially as they facilitate interaction between departments as well as junior and senior management.</p>
<h3><strong>How Office Design is Changing</strong></h3>
<p>As the needs of different industries change, so do the spaces they occupy.</p>
<p>The rise of IT, <a href="https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B076H1YM9T/ref=as_li_tl?ie=UTF8&amp;tag=mrpittster-21&amp;camp=1634&amp;creative=6738&amp;linkCode=as2&amp;creativeASIN=B076H1YM9T&amp;linkId=9932b2d10d0d2a668d5a34c068a07516" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer"><span style="color: #ff0000;">especially mobile devices</span>,</a> has led to a downsizing of many offices – in previous decades a lawyer would need his or her own secretary, but now three or four lawyers may share the same assistant. Similarly, libraries and archives are being digitised or stored on the cloud, freeing up space that could serve as a comfortable kitchen.</p>
<h3><strong>Home From Home</strong></h3>
<p>Increasingly, office fit-outs look more like household interior design, with plush carpets, huge sofas and cosy coffee nooks with adjustable lighting. These spaces are perfect for quiet, concentrated work or for a quick meeting, or, indeed, for a coffee and a chat.</p>
<p>The best thing about these spaces is their flexibility – they are all things to all people. They have to be multi-purpose and many different people use them for many different functions, with no one group or person having ownership of them. Snacking, training, thinking, resting, creating, even a <a href="https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B018XXOOMU/ref=as_li_tl?ie=UTF8&amp;tag=mrpittster-21&amp;camp=1634&amp;creative=6738&amp;linkCode=as2&amp;creativeASIN=B018XXOOMU&amp;linkId=132ba81e80b1beb3c2b7a6a65fa51214" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer"><span style="color: #ff0000;">game of table football</span></a> – it all happens there.</p>
<h3><strong>The Techy Stuff</strong></h3>
<p>Of course these third spaces need all the latest technology and facilities, with many refurbs and new builds focusing on data points, charging stations, wi-fi and ubiquitous audio-visual equipment. Why spoil the flow of a meeting by moving into a stuffy meeting room because the projector is there? There’s loads of wireless presentation systems that can work anywhere and everywhere.</p>
<h3><strong>A Degree of Separation</strong></h3>
<p>Third spaces also solve many of the problems associated with open plan offices – a lot of space has been wasted in the past in efforts to separate the geeky IT crew from the chatty sales teams. If an office’s social space involves comfortable, well-upholstered booths, then it’s a natural barrier that actually earns its keep.</p>

<p style="text-align: justify;">Research conducted by the <span style="color: #ff0000;"><a style="color: #ff0000;" href="http://contentmarketinginstitute.com" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">Content Marketing Institute</a></span> in September last year required UK B2B Marketers  to evaluate each content marketing channel in terms of effectiveness. <h2>Content Marketing Channel</h2>
<p>The report was very clear in terms of its findings related to content marketing channels as you can see in the chart above. There were two content marketing channels ranked number 1 for effectiveness and these channels were blogs and in person events.</p>
<h2>What Does this Mean for UK B2B Marketers?</h2>
<p style="text-align: justify;">Stay focused. Do not get distracted by shiny new objects in Social Media or the wider digital arena. This could be Blab, Snapchat or even some way of incorporating your product or location into <span style="color: #ff0000;"><a style="color: #ff0000;" href="https://techcrunch.com/2016/07/11/the-brilliant-mechanics-of-pokemon-go/" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">Pokemon Go</a> </span>(this week&#8217;s big story). Keep on blogging and your efforts will be rewarded. If you find blogging difficult we can write your blog posts for you. Prospective clients and customers can see when you have been consistent with your blog and will give you more consideration than your competitors who may only be blogging sporadically.</p>

<p>Professional Services companies need to build trust in the minds of their leads and prospects. In business sectors where deals and contracts can be literally worth millions of pounds or dollars it is vital that your prospective and existing customers trust your company. I am reminded of the words attributed to Mark Twain, &#8220;People do business with those they know like and trust.&#8221; This is absolutely true in my experience. Without trust there will be no foundation for a relationship and relationships are key to achieving success in business. So, how do you build up trust in your Professional Services Firm? Below are five ways.</p>
<h2>Build Trust in Your Company</h2>
<h3><strong>1. Website &#8211; About Us</strong></h3>
<p>A lot of companies make the mistake of having fairly vague &#8216;About Us&#8217; pages which either don&#8217;t list anyone&#8217;s names and photos or are filled with stock photos of people who appear regularly in Google search results but do not work for you. It&#8217;s okay to not be a huge multinational company with offices around the world but be authentic and make it clear who is in the company. People do business with people rather than companies.</p>
<h3><strong>2. Exceptional Service Standards</strong></h3>
<p>If you are delivering Professional Services to a B2B audience more than likely you will have a number of competitors. To differentiate yourself you must provide exemplary service. In some of the world&#8217;s top hotels there is a concept of &#8216;7 star service&#8217;. Burj Al Arab, Jumeirah in the UAE is one such hotel. This is a good frame of reference because it demonstrates that you must deliver a clearly higher level of service than your competitors.</p>

<p>Social Proof also known as informational social influence, is a psychological phenomenon where people assume the actions of others in an attempt to reflect correct behaviour for a given situation. In business terms, If visitors to your site can see evidence of people who have used your products and services talking favourably about them and this is reinforced by mentions on Social Media platforms they will be more likely to trust you and then to buy from you. Collect video and written testimonials from past and current customers and integrate them into your marketing materials and onto your website.</p>
<h3><strong>4. Longevity </strong></h3>
<p>By remaining operational and profitable over a long period of time you will build trust in the minds of your target audience. Simply &#8216;staying in the game&#8217; presents you in a positive light because many companies and organisations do not survive and never achieve longevity.</p>
<h3><strong>5. Accessibility </strong></h3>
<p>Being open and accessible is also another way of building trust with your leads and prospects. Have clear contact details on your website, host webinars, live networking events, workshops and Google hangouts. Give your audience lots of opportunities for them to get a better understanding of your company and to connect with you. Be diligent in responding to queries, comments on Social Media or via email. Each customer contact is a chance to build your reputation and trust in your company.</p>
